Matthew Male took the following pictures of Great Gull after Hurricane Sandy. The waves took out chunks of the island along the north and south side. In addition to doing this at the eastern end of the island the water dropped a lot of sand and some gravel. The north end of the dock is left, the loading dock, but nothing connects it to the shore of the island. Some of the areas where the hurricane dropped sand and gravel will probably be used by Common Terns and many of the areas used by Roseates seem to be in tact. We plan another trip to the island sometime before the middle of March. More then!
